17-Oct-2009: Strange Mistakes

Meshail & Nithual
Announcing their presence to Detroit, Virdriv's gang, the Jingo Hawks M.C. hosted their first annual chili cook-off. Nithual, Virdriv's aid-de-camp, helped facilitate the charming of locals (something the Impudite of The War was much more adept at than the surly Stalker). The cook-off not only helped establish the club to the populace, but was also a bit of a demonic meet-and-greet, with many of Detroit's factions there to make connections, trades and size up the newcomers. Morrthis was there primarily to show off his syrup-infused chili concoction. And eat.

With their gang so close to the Demon of Devil's Night tether, Nithual had to soothe tensions to ensure that only Maiphiat would "do any burning." The Impudite also set up initial relations with representatives of Theft and Drugs. Noting that current comrade-in-arms Meshail was also in attendance, the two struck up a conversation--which was interrupted by a short, young man with a wavering Irish accent. This was Happy Fitz, a member of the gang who was sent to check on a potential new clubhouse for the gang. Fitz reported trouble of an indescribable nature. Nithual agreed that he should probably investigate and Meshail, sensing a potential story for his servant, offered to "assist."

The potential new clubhouse for the Jingo Hawks was a two story warehouse in an old (and mostly abandoned) industrial district. From the outside the place looked normal, but they were had been informed that gang member, Soldier and potential Sorcerer, Jamie Seger had vanished inside, so knew to be wary.

Following their entrance into the warehouse, the doors slammed shut behind them, locking the two demons inside. Curious, but not too worried, the two began to search the warehouse's ground floor, unable to determine what sort of warehouse it might have been prior to its abandonment. Traveling downstairs proved impossible, however, as the stairs seemingly descended into infinity--though the travel back up to the ground floor took no time, regardless of how far "down" they traveled.

Limited by their corporeal forms, Nithual decided to assume his celestial form, while Meshail stood by (just in case). The warehouse was obviously not guarded against such celestial invasions and Nithual was able to investigate the basement. In a corner of the basement was a pile of fist-sized blood red stones, each with a swirling mist of movement inside. Each stone contained a trapped soul, including the soul of the missing Soldier, Jamie.

Jamie, in his investigation of the warehouse, had come across a black woman who trapped him and fled. At least, that was his report (though wracked with pain inside his soul-prison) to Nithual. The identity of the woman was unknown, though Meshail suspected Aphra Trithemius, Detroit's newest celebrity in metaphysics and self-proclaimed "sorceress."

Unsure of what to do with the soul stones, the two demons continued investigation of the basement, hoping to find an answer. Though most of the basement was emptied (some of the items removed only recently), they did find a large, black wood desk with candle wax and a strange piece of leather covered with undecipherable glyphs. Meshail pocketed the flesh for later research.

Returning to the stones, scattering the pile revealed another character (in a different glyph style) obviously written on the floor in blood. Suspecting that the symbol resembled electrical diagrams, Meshail attempted to "short circuit" whatever the warehouse was powered with by arranging some of the stones in a particular order on the symbol's endpoints. This released the souls in a violent fashion, sending a mystical flare shattering through the roof and destroying the energy held within each stone (and, presumably, the warehouse).

Virdriv was displeased with both the attention-grabbing display of destroyed souls and that a Soldier was also lost in the process. This certainly wouldn't look gook on his report. He demanded more information. Meshail returned to his apartment to research the symbols. Nithual was approached by Ray Evans, soldier of The Game who had been ordered to investigate the strange lights. Nithual decided to play nice and allowed Evans to "escort" him away.

Meshail was unable to discern the meaning of the writings on the leather, but investigation into the floor's "circuit" brought him in contact with an angel (presumably an Ofanite of Jean, based on style of entrance and communication style). Meshail, also being an "angel" convinced his fellow to assist and learned the story of a mad, but brilliant Renegade Shedite who (if the stories were true), body-hopped into a prophet as he was experiencing a vision and saw the destruction of the world. The symbol Meshail found has been popping up in various places and it's the Corruptor's mark. Further tales have it that the mark will only start appearing when the destruction is approaching and where it begin. The Ofanite left the Habbalite with that weighty information, likely bringing portents to his own boss.

Nithual, meanwhile, returned to the warehouse only to be trapped again. To make matters worse, yet another Soldier appeared injured by his actions. The black woman (whoever or whatever she is) was tapping into an already haunted building, the building's ghost seized Ray Evan's body to communicate with Nithual. Unfortunately, the interrogation only provided vague answers. The ghost was promised his haven would be safe if he released Ray Evans. The spirit complied.

Something was happening in Detroit and, if the Ofanite's stories were true, it was going to be big and dangerous. Only time and continued investigation would tell the demons what might be next...
